Vehicle Lift Process with Auto Tools

When you work with Automotive Tools you get more than just a vehicle lift, we help you throughout the process of purchasing a lift from start to finish.

Lift Site Survey

First, we can provide you with a vehicle lift site survey to ensure you purchase a vehicle lift that not only meets your lifting requirements but is also adequate for your premises.

This will allow us to ensure the space you’re going to use is appropriate for the vehicle lift. With this being a significant investment, you don’t want to order a vehicle lift online only to find you can’t fit it anywhere due to it being too big. We’ll also be able to advise you on which product would be most beneficial to lift the vehicles you generally work on.

We will start by inspecting the floor, as the concrete needs to be at least 150mm thick. This will keep the equipment anchored down safely without the risk of falling. This is also important as many older buildings, such as converted mills, could have thin concrete floors around 50mm thick covering old stone flags.

We will be able to test the floor, should it need doing, with a drill test to check the concrete’s depth. Should the floor be inadequate, we can advise what groundworks will be required before moving forward with the installation of the equipment.

We will also need to check the area where the equipment will stand, as this will help to determine the type of vehicle lift. It also allows us to make sure you are compliant with health and safety regulations after the vehicle lift installation is complete. Taking into consideration many things, for example checking the available walkway around the lift, and ensuring that there’s enough space for you to make a quick and safe exit in the event of a fire.

Headroom and electrical supply will also be checked to determine the type of lift that can be installed.

Vehicle Lift Installation

Once the site is ready, our team will be able to begin the vehicle lift installation process.

All our engineers are approved by the Garage Equipment Association, which we have been a member of for the last 10 years always, so we can always ensure a high-quality service. Our engineers are sent to become GEA approved before commencing work for us and are re-tested once approval expires every three years. This ensures they are up to date with all the latest industry standards and regulations.

Lift Aftercare

To ensure you get the most out of your investment, regular maintenance will be required. The Garage Equipment Association advises that you conduct daily and monthly inspections, however, six-monthly maintenance inspections are compulsory.

From the main structure of the lift to arm locks, levelling devices, to guards, limit switches and everything else in-between, Automotive Tools can service your vehicle lifting equipment regularly.

This will help to increase its lifespan by catching any issues early and rectifying them. These inspections will ensure your vehicle lifts meet all required regulations, including:

  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulation (LOLER) – Reg.9
  • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) – Reg.6
